Limeco Quicklime Project Expands Production Capacity as Firering Increases Stake in Zambia Operation
Aim-listed Firering Strategic Minerals has begun hot commissioning Kiln 3 at its Limeco quicklime project in Zambia following the completion of planned refurbishment works, marking further progress toward expanding commercial production.
With three kilns now operating, Firering said the project is moving beyond break-even production and is positioned to become one of Zambia’s leading producers of high-quality lime for the mining, construction, agriculture, and industrial sectors.
The company has successfully restarted the gasifier and returned Kilns 1 and 2 to production, while Kiln 3 is expected to reach full operation once it achieves the required temperature levels.
As Kiln 3 ramps up, total lime production is expected to exceed 200 tonnes per day. Further upgrades to the hydration circuit are also expected to increase hydrated lime production beyond the current capacity of 100 tonnes per day.
Firering has also completed the final payment under its Limeco option agreement, increasing its ownership stake in the project to 45%.
Firering Chairperson and Interim CEO Youval Rasin said the company’s immediate focus is achieving stable production from Kiln 3 and completing refurbishment works on Kiln 4, which is expected to be commissioned in the coming months.
He added that bringing additional kilns online will improve operational efficiency, increase production volumes, and strengthen Limeco’s position as a strategic lime supplier for Zambia’s growing mining and infrastructure industries.
The Limeco project is expected to play an important role in supporting Zambia’s mining sector, where lime is a key input in mineral processing, particularly copper production.
